WHAT IS SPERM?
Sperm is an organic compound with a pearly white consistency and liquid albumin, with an opalescent appearance, which contains male germ cells: spermatozoa. Once released into the vagina through ejaculation, along with the other components of the sperm, the female reproductive system returns to fertilize the egg and begin a pregnancy. In some cases of infertility, a situation in which a couple does not achieve a natural conception after at least 12 months, the man produces an insufficient number of sperm for fertilization. The spermatozoa must have precise characteristics: a sufficient number of spermatozoa with good motility and a correct morphology and structure, which allows the penetration of the female ovum.
Male factor infertility affects nearly 50% of infertile couples worldwide who wish to conceive and require empiric therapy. Your sperm count is considered lower than normal if you have fewer than 15 million sperm per milliliter of semen.

HOW DOES THE TEST WORK?
The sperm test is a biochemical test for the qualitative in vitro estimation of sperm concentration in human semen. Sperm are trapped on the surface of the first layer of the membrane, and a staining solution is used that can stain the sperm. The darker the color of well A, the higher the sperm concentration. If the color of well A is lighter than the standard of reference well B, it means that the sperm concentration is less than 15 million/mL. If the color of well A is darker than the standard color of reference B, it means that the sperm concentration is higher than 15 million/ml.
WHEN SHOULD I DO THE TEST?
The sperm test is a preliminary diagnostic system, it is always good to investigate with the help of a specialist any positive result at low concentrations. The test is for home use and should be performed if you intend to plan conception or suspect a male infertility situation.
WHAT DOES THE TEST CONTAIN?

PROCEDURE FOR USE
- Collect semen directly into the collection cup. Shake and let stand for 15 minutes
- Deposit one drop of semen into test well A, using the pipette provided;
- Add 3 drops of staining solution to well A and allow to soak for 1-2 minutes;
- Apply 2 drops of the wash solution to well A and allow to soak for 1-2 minutes. Read the results immediately by comparing the color of A to that of B.
INTERPRETATION OF RESULTS
- Normal if the color of well A is darker than that of reference well B, the sperm concentration is greater than 15 million/ml .
- Abnormal if the color of well A is lighter than that of reference well B, it means that the sperm concentration is less than 15 million/ml. It is recommended to contact a specialist for more information.
