The CELIAC TEST is useful for anyone who wants to check if they have any sensitivity to gluten, which must then be confirmed by a specialist. CELIAC TEST is a lateral flow immunochromatographic device for the detection of IgA and IgG anti-DGP antibodies in whole blood. If antibodies are present in the sample, they will react with deamidated gliadin. A positive result indicates that the antibody concentration is near the cutoff of 20 U/mL.
WHAT IS GLUTEN INTOLERANCE?
Gluten intolerance, also known as "celiac sprue," is an autoimmune disorder that involves the digestive process of the small intestine. It is a chronic inflammatory disorder produced by the ingestion of gluten-containing dietary products in susceptible people. It can have both environmental and hereditary factors: those who have celiac relatives are, in fact, more likely to contract the disease during their lifetime. Celiac disease is defined as a permanent intolerance to gluten, a substance contained in wheat and composed of gliadin and glutenin. Gluten helps hold foods in shape by acting like a glue that holds them together. Gliadin is the protein component of gluten, responsible for the reaction of the immune system, due to intestinal inflammation. In celiac subjects, the immune system reacts against gluten by damaging the intestinal wall, responsible for the absorption of nutrients. Cereals that contain gluten are: oats, wheat, barley, kamut, spelt, rye, spelt and triticale.
WHO IS THE TEST FOR?
The Test is useful for anyone who wants to verify the presence of a possible intolerance to gluten, in particular patients with symptoms (abdominal pain and bloating, chronic diarrhoea, vomiting, constipation, pale, foul-smelling or greasy stools, weight loss, fatigue, irritability and behavioral problems, dental enamel defects in permanent teeth, delayed growth and puberty), patients with a first-degree relative with CD, patients with type I diabetes.
HOW DOES THE TEST WORK?
Unlike common gluten intolerance tests, which detect only the presence of antibodies IgA, the PRIMA® Lab Celiac Test identifies class A and G anti-DGP antibodies. This is because many subjects have an IgA deficiency, often unknown, which could lead to false results if the detected parameter is only the immunoglobulin A. The celiac test is based on an immunochromatographic reaction: if IgA and IgG antibodies are present in the sample, they will react with deamidated gliadin and a red band will appear in the test area . A positive result indicates that the antibody concentration is close to the determined limit. Results at home in just 10 minutes.
WHEN SHOULD I DO THE TEST?
The Test may be performed if you notice typical symptoms related to this condition, such as: bloating, persistent diarrhea, malnutrition, weight loss, rash, stomach pain, constipation, ulcers in the mouth, tingling, numbness, anxiety or depression and tiredness. Even in the absence of these symptoms, if there is a deficiency in iron, B vitamins, or folate, it could mean that the body is not properly taking in the necessary nutrients.

INTERPRETATION OF RESULTS:
Negative - no anti-DGP antibodies have been detected in the sample or its concentration is below the cut-off point of 20 U/mL.
Positive - anti-DGP antibodies have been detected in the sample, therefore, possible celiac disease. It is necessary to consult a specialist.
