Upper limb orthoses encompass all orthopedic products for support and healing of arm and shoulder injuries: finger splints, wrist braces, elbow pads or shoulder supports.
Upper limb orthoses are also frequently used in patients with neurological problems, cerebral palsy or spinal cord injuries and peripheral nerves.
We will distinguish between:
Static orthoses (positioners): Devices that do not allow movement, but maintain a certain posture. They are used as a rigid support in fractures and in inflammatory conditions of tendons and soft parts.
Dynamic (functional) orthoses: In contrast to static orthoses, these devices allow or facilitate movement. This type of orthosis is used to assist the movement of weakened muscles.
