PREGNANCY AND BREASTFEEDING
During the periconceptional period, some nutrients such as folic acid have a very high requirement. It is recommended that women likely to become pregnant consume 400 µg of folic acid from food supplements or fortified foods, in addition to folic acid intake from a varied and balanced diet.
In the second half of pregnancy, energy needs increase and also that of many vitamins and minerals: iron, iodine and zinc, and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA).
During the lactation period, the energy needs are greater, for the generation of milk, and the needs of some vitamins and minerals are also greater, as well as DHA, essential for the development of the fetus and the newborn, particularly his vision.
During pregnancy and lactation, a daily intake of DHA of 200 mg is recommended in addition to the 250 mg of DHA + EPA recommended for the general population.
The amount of DHA in Oligen Donna covers additional intake recommendations during pregnancy and lactation, contributing to the normal development of the eyes and brain of the fetus and the breast-fed infant.
