Main components of Natalben Lactation:
- Folic Acid (Vitamin B9): During breastfeeding, the mother's folate intake may decrease due to its transfer into breast milk, which is the best source of folic acid for the infant. Folic acid contributes to normal psychological function. Folic acid also helps reduce tiredness and fatigue.
- Vitamin A: The mother's vitamin A concentration decreases as breastfeeding continues. Breast milk is the best source of vitamin A for the infant.
- Vitamin D: Contributes to the normal absorption and utilization of calcium. The concentration of vitamin D in breast milk depends on the mother's vitamin D levels.
- Iodine: A breastfeeding woman needs almost twice the amount of iodine as an adult to ensure that her child receives all the iodine they need through her milk. Iodine contributes to normal cognitive function.
- Calcium: A mother's calcium requirements increase considerably to maintain her bone stores and meet the demands of her infant. Calcium contributes to normal energy-yielding metabolism and is necessary for the maintenance of normal bones.
- Iron: Contributes to the normal formation of red blood cells and hemoglobin. An adequate intake helps the mother recover from childbirth and achieve the required levels during breastfeeding.
- Omega-3 Fatty Acids: These are nutrients necessary for the body and can only be ingested through the diet. DHA contributes to the normal brain and eye development of breastfed infants. Breastfeeding women are advised that this beneficial effect is achieved with a daily intake of 200 mg of DHA, in addition to the recommended daily intake of omega-3 fatty acids for adults, i.e., 250 mg of DHA and EPA.
