Are there also medical reasons?
In the immediate hip postoperative period, all seats, chairs, sofas, beds, and toilet seats should be at the appropriate height to prevent exaggerated hip flexion to avoid risk of dislocations, which could cause a return to the operating room.

- Measure the distance from the ground to the back of the knee. This measure must be taken when the person wears the usual footwear for going home
- For chairs, measure the distance from the floor to the top of the seat when it is compressed, (as if someone is sitting) (Fig. 2). For beds measure the height from the floor to the top of the mattress, also as if someone were sitting on the edge of the mattress.
- Subtract the leg measurement (Fig. 1) from the height measurement (Fig. 2) and the difference will tell you how much to increase the height of the chair, sofa, or bed.
Which furniture is preferable to elevate?
Although a 2 or 3-seater sofa can be raised, it is preferable to raise a single-seater armchair, taking into account that the sofa is a common piece of furniture and is also used by other people and also the person who needs the raised furniture, on the sofa cannot benefit from the two armrests on both sides to sit or sit down.
