The naturopathic studies of health pioneer Sebastian Kneipp laid the cornerstone in 1891 for the founding and development of today's Kneipp GmbH and the Kneipp® brand. In the meantime, Kneipp exports popular bath and body care products as well as medicines and food supplements to many countries around the world as an international company based in Würzburg. In 2016 Kneipp® celebrated an important anniversary: 125 years of knowledge about nature.
In 1890 Sebastian Kneipp met the Wurzburg pharmacist Leonhard Oberhäußer. Through the mutual conviction of doing something good with naturopathic healing methods they became close collaborators and good friends. Starting from natural plant essences and other pure components, they created recipes that are still the basis of Kneipp products today.
Joint experiments with natural medicines were successful. In 1891 Sebastian Kneipp placed the legacy of his lifelong studies in the hands of his friend and ally Oberhäußer. It gave him the right to develop, manufacture and distribute pharmaceutical and cosmetic products as well as dietetic foods "with the name and effigy of Mr. Parson Sebastian Kneipp".
Kneipp today
The basis of these agreements was the founding of the Kneipp company, which for generations has been developing, manufacturing and distributing high-quality medicines, food supplements and care products under the Kneipp brand name. To this day the company has been fully committed to the naturopathic heritage of its co-founder and name giver Sebastian Kneipp.
Currently, the Kneipp company has around 500 employees worldwide, including 370 in Germany. Tablets, lotions, bath additives such as bath oils, bath crystals or foam and cream baths are produced at the headquarters in Ochsenfurt-Hohestadt near Würzburg, one of the most important business areas. Kneipp has its own department for product development. Research and Development collaborate closely with scientific institutes and develop patents and new active ingredients following the Sebastian Kneipp standards.
